The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expressed confidence in retaining the Kumawu seat ahead of Tuesday’s by-election.
According to the party’s Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagbah, the NPP will win over 90 per cent of the votes.
Speaking to Accra-based Citi FM, Mr Ahiagbah said the massive developmental projects embarked on by the NPP in Kumawu put it in pole position over the largest opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the other interested parties in the race to replace the late MP for the area, Philip Basoah who joined his maker in March after a brief illness.
“I can tell you with all certainty that if a vote is cast on Tuesday, the NPP will get not less than 90 per cent of the total vote cast,” he said.
Mr Ahiagbah also shot down claims that the current road construction projects ongoing in the constituency are vote-buying tactics and added that processes for the construction had long begun before the unfortunate passing of the MP.
“These processes had been put in place and everything was supposed to start in March, but it was left with contractor selection and other related issues and eventually, the people selected a contractor and so it was a question of timing and the unfortunate incident of our brother, Basoah happened just before this whole thing started.”
The Kumawu by-election is scheduled for Tuesday, May 23, 2023.
