A former Minority Chief Whip, Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak says the recent change in leadership of the minority caucus was part of moves to get him out of parliament.
According to the Member of Parliament for Asawase, the leadership of the National Democratic Congress schemed to oust him from the constituency during the party’s primaries held on Saturday.
Speaking in an interview, Muntaka said some individuals within the party’s leadership have been plotting to get him out of Parliament for some time now.
“I can tell you, it was part of the strategy to get me out. No political person won’t say that wasn’t part of the strategy to get me out. Avedzi wasn’t contesting again, Haruna didn’t have any contenders and I was the only one who had a contender, so to have done that at that time was part of the strategy to get me out. But like I keep saying, God is not their village Chief, God doesn’t hate people because you hate them.”
He also reiterated the significance of uniting the rank and file of the party after the just-ended primaries and called on the newly elected flagbearer of the party, John Mahama to hit the ground running in addressing these concerns.
Muntaka faced a stiff contest from Masawudu Mubarick for the Asawase constituency parliamentary race and emerged victorious by polling 1,063 of the total valid votes cast against Masawudu’s 735.
