The Minority Leader in Parliament, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson says the earliest Ghana can clinch a deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is the third quarter of the year.
According to him, the May deadline is not possible and feasible and added that the Akufo-Addo government will not be able to secure the deal immediately.
Speaking in an interview with Accra-based TV3, the Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam MP called on the Finance Minister to be candid with Ghanaians.
“I can confirm to you that it is not going to happen by the end of May, it is not going to happen, I will urge our Minister responsible for Finance to be truthful to the people of Ghana and be candid enough to say that yes, the timelines that we have, we said A, B and C but we cannot make it. The earliest is beginning 3rd Quarter, July August, that is the earliest,” Dr Ato Forson said.
Ghana is currently before the Bretton Woods Institution for a $3 billion economic bailout package as it grapples with its worst economic crisis in a generation.
