Asthma Ghana Donates GH¢50,000 Aerochambers To Ho Teaching Hospital

Ho Teaching Hospital (HTH) has received 100 aerochambers valued at GH¢50,000 from Asthma Ghana to support the management of asthma and other respiratory conditions at the facility.

The donation, presented by Asthma Ghana’s Founder and Executive Director, Prof. Victor Wutor, is expected to improve the effectiveness of inhaler therapy and enhance access to essential respiratory care, particularly for children and other patients who have difficulty using inhalers correctly.

The Head of Domestic Sub-BMC, Madam Senam Kove, formally received the items on behalf of the hospital management at a brief ceremony at the hospital on September 29, 2026.

Aerochambers, also known as valved holding spacers, are devices used with metered-dose inhalers to improve the delivery of medication into the lungs. They are particularly useful for patients who struggle to coordinate inhaler activation with breathing, including young children and some elderly patients.

The donated devices are expected to support respiratory care services at the hospital’s Asthma Clinic, Paediatrics Department and Accident and Emergency Unit, where patients with acute and chronic respiratory conditions receive treatment.

Presenting the donation, Prof. Wutor said it formed part of Asthma Ghana’s broader commitment to promoting asthma awareness, educating communities on proper disease management and supporting healthcare facilities with essential tools for respiratory care.

“Managing asthma remains a core health priority in Ghana, and correct inhaler technique can make a significant difference in treatment outcomes. By providing these aerochambers, we hope to reduce some of the challenges faced by patients and families while equipping healthcare professionals with an important tool to improve respiratory care,” he said.

Prof. Wutor further expressed Asthma Ghana’s interest in developing a sustained partnership with the Ho Teaching Hospital and exploring opportunities to provide additional support based on the hospital’s identified needs.

Receiving the items, Madam Kove expressed appreciation to Prof. Wutor and Asthma Ghana for the donation, describing it as a timely intervention to strengthen respiratory healthcare delivery at the hospital.

She noted that partnerships between healthcare facilities, civil society organisations and other stakeholders remained important in complementing efforts to improve access to quality healthcare, particularly for vulnerable patients.
