In a strong show of spiritual solidarity, two of Ghana’s most respected religious leaders have thrown their full support behind the upcoming National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving (NDPT), a visionary initiative by President John Dramani Mahama aimed at fostering national unity and spiritual renewal.
Rev. Steve Wengam, General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, Ghana, and Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, General Overseer of Action Chapel International, hosted members of the NDPT Planning Committee in separate high-level meetings that highlighted the nation’s deep-rooted faith and interreligious harmony.
Rev. Wengam praised President Mahama for honouring a divine promise and stressed the critical role of prayer in preserving Ghana’s peace, especially during election cycles. He urged organisers to prioritise actual prayer over lengthy speeches and pledged nationwide participation from all Assemblies of God branches.
Archbishop Duncan-Williams described the NDPT as a “national demonstration of gratitude to God,” drawing parallels with historic U.S. Thanksgiving observances. He emphasised Ghana’s need to remain spiritually grounded and praised the nation’s Christian-Muslim harmony as a global example.
Both clergymen commended the leadership and members of the Planning Committee, offered institutional support, and called on Ghanaians to embrace the NDPT as a moral compass for the country’s future.
With these endorsements, momentum continues to build for what promises to be a historic and spiritually significant national event.
