Outgoing Akufo-Addo/Bawumia Gov’t Will Be Held Accountable for Unmet Commitments from Jan 1 – Ato Forson Warns

The Minority Leader in Parliament, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has issued a stern warning to the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government.

According to the Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam MP, the outgoing government will be held accountable for any unmet state commitments from January 1 to January 7, 2025.

This caution follows the Finance Minister’s failure to present a mini-budget for the first quarter of 2025, leaving concerns about the government’s preparedness to ensure economic stability during the transition period.

Addressing the press after Parliament adjourned on Friday, December 20, 2024, Dr. Ato Forson described the situation as a failure of governance.

He stressed that the absence of a mini-budget could disrupt critical services and state obligations.

“Even though there will be no Minister of Finance on 7th January 2025, the Vice President can present to this House the expenditure in advance of Appropriation anytime after swearing-in on the 7th and this House will be properly constituted to expedite approval of the same.”

“While we are very disappointed, we want to caution the outgoing Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government that they will be responsible for all unmet commitments and obligations of the state from 1 January onward,” he stated.
