Sekyere Hemang Water Treatment Plant Sees Major Drop in Turbidity Levels – GWL

The Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has revealed that its Sekyere Hemang Water Treatment Plant has reported a significant improvement in turbidity levels. This development follows concerns over pollution that had previously prompted warnings of a potential shutdown of the plant, which serves Cape Coast, Elmina, and nearby communities.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, GWL revealed that the turbidity levels at the plant have dropped to an average of 9,000 NTU, down from the previous 14,000 NTU. This improvement was attributed to the efforts of the Central Regional Security Council (REGSEC), led by Regional Minister Justina Marigold Assan.

“The management of Ghana Water Limited (Central Region) wishes to update all its cherished customers within Cape Coast, Elmina and surrounding communities of the current water supply situation in these communities.”

”The Sekyere Hemang Water Treatment is currently recording an average turbidity of 9,000 NTU as compared to the previous average turbidity of 14,000 NTU through the effort of the Central Regional Security Council led by the Hon. Minister Mrs. Justina Marigold Assan. As a result of this event production at the plant has now increased from (1,981,290Gallons/Day) to (2,773,807Gallons/Day),” the statement said.

”We hope to update the public periodically of any changes to the raw water quality which will significantly affect water supply,” the GWL statement added.
