The Naana Kakie Foundation is taking proactive steps to educate students about the importance of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) testing.

During a visit to some schools in the Ada East District on Friday, July 19 2024, Ms Ayimavor also known as Naana Kakie noted that the vulnerability of some students, especially girls, exposes them to some men who most times exploit them sexually which they end up contracting the virus unknowingly.

“I came to the two schools, namely Kajanya and Tojeh D/A Basic with one of my queens who is poised to educate the public on gender violence. As you may be aware, gender violence can easily lead a woman who is desperate to have her peace of mind, to jump into the arms of anybody at all without knowing the HIV status and if the person is positive and not on treatment, it’s easy to contract. So I used the opportunity to speak with the students,” she disclosed.

Naana Kakie then highlighted an alarming statistic, noting that over 5,000 people in Ada have contracted the virus. She advised the students against using shared personal items such as blades and toothbrushes, as these can be vectors for the virus.

“My girls, do not allow the boys to be touching your breasts, and make sure you report any form of sexual harassment to your parents and, if necessary, your teachers,” she urged them.

She further encouraged the Ghanaian youth to either protect themselves before engaging in sexual activities or abstain from sex altogether if protection is unavailable.

Some of the students told Opemeh News that they have been hearing about the spread of HIV but not like when COVID-19 was in the country and so they were terrified by Naana Kakie’s presentation.
